Read the winning essays from The Writer Essay/Memoir Contest

The Writer is pleased to present the winning essays from our very first Essay/Memoir Contest! We hope you enjoy reading them.

• 1st place: "Dear Jack Kerouac" by David Joshua Jennings of Yukon, Okla.

• 2nd place: "Baking Day" by Janet Kay Jensen of Logan, Utah.

• 3rd place: "Learning to Adjust" by Caitlin Leffel of New York City.

David Joshua Jennings' story also appears in the July issue of The Writer, along with comments from finalist judge Lee Gutkind.
