The Writer is pleased to present the winning essays from our very first Essay/Memoir Contest! We hope you enjoy reading them.

• 1st place: "Dear Jack Kerouac" by David Joshua Jennings of Yukon, Okla.

• 2nd place: "Baking Day" by Janet Kay Jensen of Logan, Utah.

• 3rd place: "Learning to Adjust" by Caitlin Leffel of New York City.
