Everything Under
By Daisy Johnson
Everything Under may be this young author’s first novel, but it isn’t even her first book: Fen, her collection of short stories, accrued numerous awards last year. The Man Booker Prize panel says her novel, intended to be a gender-swapped reimagining of the Oedipus myth, was chosen for its startling “fluidity” of gender and myth. This “complex, uncompromising novel” combines “a deep understanding of character and storytelling sophistication to examine a troubled mother-daughter relationship,” writes The Guardian.
