Meet the 5 fiction finalists for the 2018 National Book Award

Two short story collections and three novels earned a spot on this year's shortlist.

Florida by Lauren Groff

Few readers will be surprised to see best-selling author Lauren Groff on the finalist list; her much-acclaimed novel Fates and Furies made the National Book Award shortlist in 2015. Her latest is Florida, a short story collection filled with what the New York Times calls “restorative fiction for these urgent times.” In addition to the National Book Award, Groff’s book is also a finalist for the 2018 Kirkus Prize.
