Fiction: Milkman by Anna Burns
The nameless characters in Anna Burns’ latest novel made quite a stir in the literary world, inspiring rave reviews from The New Yorker, the Washington Post, Kirkus, and Publishers Weekly, among others. Milkman won the Man Booker Prize last fall, making Burns the first Northern Irish author to do so. “Reading Anna Burns’ Milkman is a singular experience,” National Book Critics Circle board member Lori Feathers writes. “The novel is a statement work: as original in its presentation as it is profound in its exposition of the familiar and not so familiar terrors that daily assail its young hero, a woman who faces persistent, insidious predation, both sexual and politically motivated.”
