Meet the 2020 Carnegie Medal winners and finalists for fiction & nonfiction

Valeria Luiselli and Adam Higginbotham took home top honors at the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia.

Finalist: Figuring by Maria Popova

Maria Popova is well-known as the creator of the megapopular website brainpickings.org. Now she has her first book, Figurings, which Kirkus (in a starred review) calls “a lyrical work of intellectual history, one that Popova’s many followers will await eagerly and that deserves to win her many more.”

From the ALA: Maria “Popova brings her zest for facts and passion for biography to this exhilarating and omnivorous inquiry into the lives of geniuses who “bridged the scientific and poetic,” spinning a fine web connecting such barrier-breakers as Margaret Fuller, Ada Lovelace, Frederick Douglass, and Rachel Carson.”
