Which books were the 2020 Oscar adapted screenplay nominees based on?

While Todd Phillips and Scott Silver’s basic premise for the Joker was loosely inspired by a Batman comic called The Killing Joke, which depicted the Joker as a failed stand-up comedian, the pair also acknowledge their script didn’t rely much on one particular comic book to create the screenplay for the film. ” We kind of picked and chose what we liked from the 80-year canon of Joker,” Phillips said to journalists at an early Joker screening in Los Angeles.
