To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Last on our list is one of the most famous banned books of all time: Harper Lee’s beloved To Kill a Mockingbird. The Pulitzer Prize winner from 1964 is the oldest book on the American Library Association’s list. It’s hard to imagine a book on so many educational “required reading” lists being challenged 50 years after its original publication, but schools cite its use of violence and the N-word as the reason for the ban.
