4. Golden Child by Claire Adam (Jan. 29)
Set in rural Trinidad, Claire Adams’ debut tells the story of a father forced to make an impossible decision: He must choose which of his two sons to save, the beloved genius or the rebel of the family. Adams’ novel is the second title from Sarah Jessica Parker’s imprint SJP for Hogarth; the first was the New York Times best-seller A Place for Us (also, coincidentally, a book about family relationships set outside the U.S. and written by a debut novelist).
“Throughout this stunning portrait of Trinidad’s multicultural diversity, and one family’s sacrifices, soaring hopes and ultimate despair, Adam weaves a poetic lightness and beauty that will transfix readers,” praises Publishers Weekly.
