The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates

Ta-Nehisi Coates, National Book Award-winning author of Between the World and Me, turns to book-length fiction for the first time with the much-anticipated novel The Water Dancer. The book stars Hiram Walker, a slave who is gifted with a mysterious power and ultimately becomes a conductor on the underground railroad.

“In prose that sings and imagination that soars, Coates further cements himself as one of this generation’s most important writers, tackling one of America’s oldest and darkest periods with grace and inventiveness. This is bold, dazzling, and not to be missed,” writes Publishers Weekly in a starred review.
