1. Belichick by Ian O-Connor
We’re starting our lineup with the big guns: Bill Belichick, head coach of the New England Patriots. Love him or hate him, if you’re a football fan, you’ve got to admire the man’s talents: He’s led the Patriots to nine Super Bowl games (including the 2019 game) and five championships; now, he hopes to add a sixth to his legacy after this Sunday’s game. Sportswriter Ian O’Connor’s new biography, a New York Times best-seller, tells Belichick’s life story from childhood to present-day glory and was well-received by critics: The Washington Post calls it “a fascinating look inside the team so many of us love to hate,” while the Chicago Tribune says it “ranks among the best in regards to the NFL.”
Though it’s unauthorized –Belichick refused to work with O’Connor while the author researched the book – that may be a good thing for readers, points out the Pats’ hometown Boston Globe: “This is an unauthorized biography…so instead of 457 pages of hero-worship puffery, we get a fascinating, unvarnished history of what made Belichick the coach he is today.”
