Amazing Things Are Happening Here by Jacob M. Appel

Jacob M. Appel is a short fiction heavyweight: He’s been published more than 200 short stories (yes, 200) and has won the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Award for the Short Story, the Sycamore Review‘s Wabash Prize, the Boston Review Short Fiction Competition, and the Briar Cliff Review’s Short Fiction Prize, along with numerous other awards and accolades. Oh, and he’s also a physician, bioethicist, and an attorney who teaches at the Gotham Writers’ Workshop.

Appel’s latest collection contains “mordant, humorous stories that display a fine understanding of the human condition,” writes Kirkus in a starred review.
