The Aftermath

In theatres March 19

These days, can one even produce a historical literary film without Keira Knightley? She’s already portrayed Anna Karenina, Elizabeth Bennett, Colette, and Atonement‘s Cecilia Tallis; now, she takes up a lead role in Rhidian Brook’s The Aftermath. Based on Brook’s own family history, the novel tells the story of Colonel Lewis Morgan, a British officer tasked with bringing order to post-WWII Germany. Unlike many fellow officers, he chooses not to evict a German family to provide housing for his own; rather, he insists the two families live under the same roof. The film adaptation stars Knightly as Morgan’s wife, Jason Clarke as Morgan, and Alexander Skarsgård as the German homeowner.
