The top 5 hottest novels of winter 2019

Read these books now before they start racking up award nominations later this year.

Bowlaway by Elizabeth McCracken (February 5)

Elizabeth McCracken is perhaps most famous for her debut novel The Giant’s House, which was a finalist for the National Book Award in 1996. She went on to publish the well-reviewed Niagara Falls All Over Again in 2001, a memoir in 2008, and an award-winning story collection in 2014, so she certainly hasn’t been out of the limelight. That said, Bowlaway, out in early February, is her first novel in nearly 20 years, and fans are positively chomping at the bit to read it.

“Elizabeth McCracken is one of my favorite writers,” says best-selling author Nick Hornby. “I’ve read everything she’s written…and there’s nothing I haven’t liked and admired enormously.”
