First came “Hey Jude.” Now we have “Hey Grandude!”
Sir Paul McCartney’s first children’s book will be published on September 5, 2019 from Puffin, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
The book stars Grandude, a grandfather who travels the world with his grandchildren thanks to a magical compass. The publisher refers to him as “a Mary Poppins for the modern day.”

The book is inspired by McCartney’s experiences as a grandfather to eight grandchildren. (“Grandude” is what his grandchildren call him, McCartney says in a promotional video for the book.)
“I wanted to write it for grandparents everywhere – and the kids – so it gives you something to read to the grandkids at bedtime,” McCartney says.
McCartney’s Hey Grandude! isn’t the first children’s book written by a former Beatle; Ringo Starr’s Octopus’s Garden came out in 2014.
Hey Grandude! is illustrated by Kathryn Durst, illustrator of You’re in Good Paws and Life With My Family.
The book is currently available for pre-order.
