2014: The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
Some Pulitzer winners, like Tinkers, exist more quietly on the literary radar than others. Other times, it seems like the Pulitzer is just the feather in the cap of a book’s success. Such seemed to be the case with Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch, which earned rave reviews from Michiko Kakutani in the New York Times and Stephen King in the New York Times Book Review. For a while, it seemed as if The Goldfinch was all anyone seemed to be reading or talking about. Today, the novel has a whopping 26,000 reviews on Amazon (and maintains a solid four-star rating to boot.)
