The Exorcist

William Friedkin’s film The Exorcist made viewers’ heads spins (quite literally, when it came to Linda Blair’s demonic performance). But before it became the first horror film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, The Exorcist was a chilling horror novel by William Peter Blatty. The book, though widely controversial when it was first published in 1971, was a smash success, spending a whopping 57 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list.
