Admission Fees

It's free to apply. Just send in a 20-25 page writing sample. We will carefully review your sample and then we'll contact you for a brief phone interview to talk about your writing and your writing goals. We are excited to read your work.

We process our applications as quickly as possible so that we can get you started with pre-conference editing services. Tuition is $2,500 and includes all pre-conference editing services and in-town events. Applying early means you have extra time to spend doing revision. Your work will be read twice by TWH editors between acceptance and conference. Early acceptance also means you'll get to choose your reading venue in the city.

Description

Via The Writer’s Hotel, you’ll take writing from your desk to the publishing marketplace, right in the heart of New York City. Before you arrive in NYC for the conference on site, TWH editors read each target manuscript twice. TWH editors also work to connect writers with publishing opportunities.

The Writer’s Hotel is the writing program you’ve been looking for. TWH is not a quick conference. TWH is a conference with all the important components of low-residency mentorship built in. We are writers ourselves, and strove to create a new kind of program – an alternative to the conference or the MFA – that is more affordable, better, leaner. From the moment of acceptance, we work with each writer, focusing together to edit a target manuscript, with an eye to craft. Each writer works with TWH editors for months before the conference, and our program finishes up a few weeks afterwards. Our program is ideal for those who have never attended graduate school for writing, as well as for those who have. TWH is a writing program for writers of all stripes.

Our NYC writing workshops focus on writing craft. Workshops are held in fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Each workshop is three hours long and runs for four sessions. We keep our classes small, with a cap at 12 writers per instructor. TWH writing workshop, lectures and events take place at a “floating campus” in Midtown between The Algonquin, Library Hotel and The Bryant Park Hotel. Each writer reads peer work in anticipation for workshop, making comments for review in class. Many writers find the workshops to be the centerpiece of our on-site schedule and form lasting friendships. Writers benefit from a vibrant community of writing peers and faculty, including readings in the city, intensive craft workshops, meetings with agents and literary events.

NYC literary history is brought to life by walking tours led by New York Public Library docents and the Dorothy Parker Society. We also host a spectacular game of Wink, Murder at The Algonquin. And on our weekend reading nights, each writer has the extraordinary opportunity to read his or her original work at well-known venues: KGB Bar Lit’s Red Room, Book Culture, Ear INN and The Bowery. Faculty reads at The Half King and Kinokuniya.
