Prizes
$1,000 - Celebrate Diversity Award Grand Prize
To celebrate diverse experiences, we are looking for stories which include LGBTQIA, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities* and ethnic, cultural and religious minorities. Accepting stories in English and Spanish.
$200 - 7 Strengths Prize
In conjunction with our partners at LitWorld and the 7 strengths that guide their programs, we are looking for stories that address any of the following themes: belonging, curiosity, kindness, friendship, confidence, courage, and hope. These stories should also include pictures throughout (either photographs and illustrations).
$200 - Humor Prize
Many students say that funny stories are their favorite to read. We are looking to add more funny stories to our library, so we are calling for stories that will make our readers laugh!
$200 - Nonfiction Award
Some readers prefer nonfiction content – and the opportunity to dive into interesting topics more in depth. Help us build out the nonfiction section of the Story Share library by creating a book that takes a look at a compelling topic.
$200 - For Teens by Teens Award
This prize goes to the best student-created story, which will be featured in our new “for teens, by teens” section of the library.
Description
The 2015 Story Share Relevant Reads Story of the Year Contest is now underway. We are looking for writers to contribute to our new and growing body of contemporary leveled reading material available to teens and young adults who struggle with reading.
Prior experience writing for struggling reader audiences is not required. A step-by-step guide available at www.storyshares.org will assist writers in leveling their stories.
At the close of the contest, all writer submissions will be added to free open platforms that will serve as easily accessible online libraries for struggling or beginning readers of all ages.
