Entry Fees

$7.00 per individual submission - If the submission fee is a barrier to your participation in the Awards, we will waive the fee when you submit a Fee Waiver Form.

All students of African descent in grades 7-11 (ages 13 and up), who participate in the NAACP's Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO), are eligible to apply. ACT-SO is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. Students can apply in 28 categories of art and writing.

Prizes

Grant (10 Awards available) - Full-tuition scholarship for eligible NAACP ACT-SO scholars to attend a residential summer immersion program hosted by an Alliance Summer Scholarship Program partner.

Description

The Alliance/ACT-SO Journey Award, in partnership with the NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO), offers financial support to eligible NAACP ACT-SO scholars to attend a residential summer immersion program hosted by an Alliance Summer Scholarship Program partner. Round trip transportation (for the ACT-SO scholar) and a full-tuition scholarship will be provided.

To apply, submit your work to any category in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. At the end of your application, opt in to the Alliance/ACT-SO Journey Award. You will be prompted to list the name of your local ACT-SO branch.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Submissions for the 2021 Scholastic Awards open on September 1, 2020.
