Description

Words beget worlds, shaping matter. Such power cannot work in silence – even within a paper prison, sound still has a role to play.

Tolkien created his universe upon a song, but music and Fantasy haven been aflame for each other since the Victorian beginnings of the genre. Drawing upon the marvellous sources of aoidoi, bards, skalds, troubadours and other such poets wreathed in song, Fantasy breathes new life into the musical supernatural tradition. It revives, the better to innovate, as music, in its turn, draws inspiration from the sprawling multiverse of imagination.

Let us take part in this creative union! The 10th issue of Fantasy Art and Studies is dedicated to music and the enchantments it weaves into magical lands. To rise to this challenge, you will have to rely on the strength of your muse. Regardless of your style and instrument of choice (from triangles to violins, including synthesisers), follow the pied piper of your own imagination, and submit your best Fantasy short stories where music reigns.

Your stories (30 000 characters maximum, spaces included), written in English or French, are to be sent in .doc, Times New Roman 12, single-line spacing, no later than 5 January 2021 to [email protected]. Please read our detailed submission guidelines before forwarding your text: https://fantasyartandstudies.files.wordpress.com/2020/05/submission-guidelinesen.pdf

Considering the topic of this issue, the journal is open to more experimental formats, including song lyrics/poems set to music (provided that the music is the intellectual property of the author and already hosted on an accessible website).

Illustrators, please get in touch if you want to take part in this issue.
