Description
The Jack Grapes Poetry Prize
Since 2013, Cultural Daily and Jack Grapes have co-sponsored our yearly poetry contest. It begins each July 1st and runs through August 31st. The contest winners and finalists are announced in late October. The “Jack Grapes Poetry Prize” is named for Los Angeles legend, poet, author, raconteur, publisher, teacher, playwright, and actor extraordinaire, Jack Grapes. Jack is the author of twenty-four books of poetry, including Last of the Outsiders: Collected Poems, 1969-2019, and Wide Road to the Edge of the World: 301 Haiku.
As a teacher and mentor, Jack is second to none. His “Method Writing” system has transformed the lives of thousands of writers and poets, helping them to achieve literary excellence, hone their true voice, and find publication and success. Who better than Jack to be the face of our poetry contest?
The contest is free to enter and attracts poets worldwide. All poems are read stripped of identifiers.
Each of our three poet-judges chooses one first prize winner and three finalists, for a total of three winners and nine finalists, all of whom receive cash awards and publication.
