Description
Online journal KYSO Flash (Knock-Your-Socks-Off Art and Literature) calls for your best original Haibun and Tanka Prose.
Cash prizes awarded, plus publication online this fall and in a special-edition print anthology dedicated to the winners, honorable mentions, and finalists. All contributors whose works are selected will receive a complimentary copy of the book.
Judge: Matthew Paul, co-editor of Presence haiku journal in the United Kingdom and author of The Lammas Lands (Snapshot Press), whose haiku, tanka, and haibun appear in numerous journals in the UK and the USA.
Genres: Haibun and tanka prose, including hybrids and polished experimental works. Multiple haiku, senryu, and/or tanka within a single piece are acceptable, even encouraged, but each piece must also include prose, whether narrative or lyrical, or both.
Word Count: No more than 1,000 words per piece, including a mandatory title which is at least one word in length, and any footnotes provided by the author.
Theme: Open. Though not a requirement, works which include degrees of embellishment and/or “imagined realities,” and elements such as dialogue and characterization to tell their truths, are especially welcome.
