Wilcox was a teacher, writer, and editor who had over 100 published short stories, novelettes, novellas, and novels in the sci fi/fantasy genre alone. He also wrote romances, mysteries, Westerns, stage plays, and teleplays. Wilcox published his last story in 1992 at the age of 87.
