The Malahat Review, Canada’s premier literary magazine, invites entries from Canadian, American, and overseas authors for our annual Open Season Awards. An exciting spring showcase of literary excellence, Open Season bestows a prize of $1,000 in each of three marquee categories: poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction.

Poetry: no longer than 100 lines, each poem, up to 3 poems per submission.
Fiction: up to 2,500 words max. per submission on any subject (please note that ‘genre fiction,’ that is, anything in the style of romance, science fiction, horror, western, etc. is not recommended).
Creative nonfiction: up to 2,500 words max. per submission in any nonfiction style (personal essay, journalism, travel story, etc).

Entrants receive a one-year subscription to The Malahat Review.

In addition to prize money, the winners will be published in the Spring 2015 issue of the Malahat, and will be interviewed for the website.
