Description

Established in 1998, the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University is one of the longest running, largest and most successful literary centres in the UK. We have a high success rate with more than 90 students and graduates of our Masters programme publishing first books, and many more achieving publication in magazines and journals, winning prizes, setting up small presses and anthologies, and having their work adapted for performance.

Our faculty and teaching fellows include some of the UK’s brightest literary stars, led by Her Majesty the Queen’s Poet Laureate Dame Carol Ann Duffy. Students work with our writers in weekly workshops and seminars, and with one-to-one mentoring during our writing-up year.

Our alumni include a Booker Prize nominee and winners of the Costa First Book Award, Forward Poetry Prize, Commonwealth Short Story Prize and Yale University’s Windham-Campbell Prize.

We host an ambitious suite of writing programmes and short courses, vibrant series of live literature events, a city-wide children’s book festival and an international writing competition.

Our MFA Creative Writing programmes can be tailored to suit your writing preferences. There is a range of routes to choose from, all delivered by practising writers. Routes include Novel (including short fiction), Poetry, Writing for Children & Young Adults, Scriptwriting (for stage, screen and radio) or Creative Non-Fiction.
