Mamaskatch: A Cree Coming of Age  by Darrel J. McLeod

This book of essays about McLeod’s childhood in Canada “is a book about his development of queerness and adolescence in the setting in Canada as a Cree person. And it’s also a book about his relationship with his mother,” says Triplett. “Not all of the essays feel the same, and I like that. It’s exciting to me. Some of them are more straightforward. They’re all narrative. Some are a bit speculative…I really love this collection just because I think it’s really expansive and pushes the genre of nonfiction.”
