Some Animal by Ely Shipley

This book in four sections addresses Shipley’s adolescence as a trans man. In his classes, Triplett teaches this as a nonfiction book, although it’s categorized as poetry. “There aren’t a lot of left-aligned poems in this book,” Triplett says, referring to the most commonly recognized layout form of poetry. “There are some poetics, even though there’s [also] a narrative force.” Triplett also calls out Shipley’s capacity to evoke memories through his work, even though his experience may not necessarily be shared by the reader.
