Writers Who Run
July 10-16, 2023.
This weeklong writing retreat in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, culminates in a 5K or 10K race for runners and walkers. Faculty include authors April Dávila, Rachel Werner, and Christie Wright Wild, who invite writers of all ages working in all genres to start each morning with a 2 to 3-mile run or walk along the lake and then take workshops on novel structure, social media networking, and the business of writing. Participants enjoy two hours of writing time each day, as well as critique sessions.
Retreat staff offer activities such as journal making, whitewater rafting, waterfall hikes, evening bonfires, and the Writers Who Run 10K & 5K Race for Literacy, which raises money for a Georgia-based children’s literacy program and kids’ books for schools. The retreat includes all meals, designed to give runners and walkers the nutrients they need. “You’ll leave with more excitement and energy about your writing and running than when you got here,” says founder Wright Wild. “It’s just enough motivation to keep you inspired (and productive) for another year.”
