Pinterest2When writer’s block strikes, swap words for pictures. Photo posting sites such as Pinterest, Juxtapost and WeHeartIt allow users to collect and organize images on a digital inspiration board. Find photos of your setting, like a gritty city street or the cool Appalachian Mountains. Pin photographs of people who resemble your characters, either in mood or physical appearance. Create a virtual closet for your character: Does he wear a bright yellow raincoat or drab sweater vests? Or build a board of intriguing photos that spark new ideas.

Next time you hit a creative slump, open the board and write a description of the image. Use the description as the foundation for a new project.
