Where art thou, character?

Add to Favorites

A Statuework of art can be a powerful tool for building character and developing motivation for actions. A good place to start is at a museum or sculpture garden. Choose a work of art and build a character around it. The character can reflect a work of art in qualities – a poker-faced Mona Lisa smile or hands the size of Michelangelo’s David – or the character can interact with a work of art, such as a public statue. What if the painting or sculpture comes to life surreally for your character? What will their relationship reflect? How will others observe or cope with the relationship? You’ll have to decide what genre to work within as well: sci-fi, magical realism, fantasy or super fiction. Let the art inspire the art!
