Solstice writing prompt: Winter warmth

Add to Favorites

Write a story that takes place during the winter solstice, an astrological phenomenon that occurs on the shortest day and longest night of the year. The solstice marks the first day of winter, usually Dec. 21, and historically signifies a “return to the light” as the days lengthen again.

Imagine a character who, on the day of the winter solstice, experiences an unexpected feeling of warmth. What happens to the character on this day? What changes for the character internally, and how does that change reflect or compare to the changing season? Use sensory details of touch to capture the temperature of the moment.
